The problem

A consumer device ships to forty countries from one factory and the buyer expects it to work out of the box with no SIM slot and no setup. The maker pays for connectivity until the customer does, so every idle unit on a shelf must cost nothing. Device makers need an embedded eUICC with a bootstrap profile that works everywhere, remote provisioning to a local profile where rules require it, and an API that ties activation to the moment the customer switches the device on.

IoT connectivity

Small SIM. Bigger possibilities.

Published pricing, no minimums, a platform and an API from the first SIM.

How to deploy consumer IoT eSIMs in 4 steps

01

Test with the trial kit

5 SIMs with 100MB each, 30 days, shipped in 3 to 7 working days. Fit them in your smartwatches and kids' watches and check attach, signal and steering at real sites.

02

Order from 1 SIM

No minimum on IoT Go at US$1.00 per active SIM plus US$0.004 per MB. Choose 2FF, 3FF, 4FF or MFF2. API keys are issued instantly.

03

Configure for the use case

Inactive SIMs are free until the first data session. Local profiles pushed over the air once the device reports its country. Register a webhook so alerts reach your own platform.

04

Scale on published rates

At 1,000 active SIMs the rate drops automatically to US$0.6 and US$0.0025. Above 10,000, IoT Enterprise adds an SLA and a dedicated manager.

Consumer electronics: questions engineers and procurement ask

What does it cost while the device sits in a warehouse or shop?

Nothing. A SIM is inactive and free until its first data session. When the customer switches the device on, the bootstrap profile attaches, your backend calls the activate endpoint, and billing starts that month at US$0.60 per active SIM on IoT Scale (US$1.00 below 1,000 active SIMs).

What do 5,000 active devices cost per month?

On IoT Scale, 5,000 devices at 15MB each cost 5,000 × US$0.60 + 75,000MB × US$0.0025 = US$3,187.50 a month, or US$0.637 per device. With a 12-month term the SIM fee drops a further 10% to US$0.54. Above 10,000 active devices, IoT Enterprise pricing applies.

Which eSIM standard do consumer IoT devices use?

GSMA SGP.32 (IoT) is designed for devices without a user interface and is supported by our profile partners for new designs. SGP.02 (M2M) remains available for modules that support it. Consumer SGP.22 applies to phones and tablets and is handled by our travel eSIM line, not the IoT platform.

Can one hardware SKU ship to every market?

Yes. MFF2 eUICC with the global bootstrap profile attaches in 180+ countries through our carrier partners. Where a country requires a local profile for long-term use, the device downloads it over the air after activation. You do not need country-specific SIM variants.

What are the lead times for MFF2 chips?

Samples of 5 are included in the free trial kit on request and ship in 3 to 7 working days. Production reels of 500 or more ship in 4 to 6 weeks from order confirmation. We recommend ordering trial samples before your EVT build.

How do we tie activation to our own customer sign-up?

Your backend calls POST /v1/sims/{iccid}/activate when the customer completes sign-up, and POST /v1/sims/{iccid}/suspend when a subscription lapses. Webhooks for sim.attached and sim.usage_threshold feed your customer app. The Postman collection has the full flow.

How does the free trial kit work?

Request it with a company address and use case. We verify the address, then ship 5 SIMs with 100MB each, valid 30 days, from India and the EU in 3 to 7 working days. You get console and API access on the day you request it, so you can start in the sandbox before the SIMs arrive.

Is there a minimum order or contract?

No. Order 1 SIM online on IoT Go at US$1.00 per active SIM per month with no contract. IoT Scale from 1,000 SIMs has an optional 12-month term that takes a further 10% off the SIM fee. IoT Enterprise above 10,000 SIMs is negotiated.

How quickly can I get API access?

Immediately. API keys are issued when you create an account. The REST API uses JSON, we publish a Postman collection, and there are snippets in Python, Node.js and cURL. A sandbox with simulated SIMs lets you test activation, usage and webhooks without hardware.
