What does the Universal eSIMs app do?
Buy plans for 195+ destinations, install the eSIM in one tap on iOS 17.4 and newer and on Android with direct install where the OS allows it (otherwise by scanning the QR shown in the app), see live usage, top up, switch between stored eSIMs, download GST invoices and reach WhatsApp support. Student and business accounts use the same app with extra tabs.
Is the app free?
Yes. The app costs nothing and has no subscription. You pay only for plans, at the same prices as the website. There are no in-app purchase mark-ups.
Which phones does it support?
iPhone running iOS 16 or later and Android 10 or later. eSIM features need an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone: iPhone XS and newer, Samsung S20 and newer, Pixel 3 and newer and most recent models from other brands. The app includes the same compatibility checker as the site.
Can I install the eSIM without scanning a QR code?
On iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, yes: tap Install and the eSIM is added without a QR. On Android, direct install works on Pixel and recent Samsung phones; other models scan the QR shown in the app from a second screen or use the manual code. The website route by email always works too.
Does the app work without data abroad?
Plans and QR codes are cached on the phone once downloaded, so you can install and switch on an eSIM in flight mode or on airport Wi-Fi. Usage figures need a connection to refresh.
How do usage alerts work?
Push notifications at 80% and 100% of data, and 3 days before validity ends. Business admins get pool alerts at 50%, 80% and 100%. Alerts also go to WhatsApp if you opt in.
Where is my data stored and what permissions does the app ask for?
Account data is stored in India (AWS Mumbai). The app asks for notifications (alerts), camera (only when scanning a QR from another device) and, on Android, the carrier-config permission needed to install an eSIM. No contacts, location or advertising identifiers. See the privacy policy.
When is the app available?
The iOS and Android apps launch alongside the website. Until the store listings are live the badges on this page link to the website checkout, which does everything the app does except one-tap install. Beta testers get TestFlight and Play internal-test links.
Are there app reviews or ratings yet?
No. The app has not shipped, so it has no store ratings and we show none. Store ratings will appear on the listings themselves once real users have rated it; see our review policy.
